Leonard Lolis Becomes White Plains First Director of Information Services Department By James C. Benerofe At the April Common Council meeting Mayor Joseph Delfino nominated Leonard Lolis to become the first Director of Information Services. The Common Council gave its unanimous approval to the appointment of Lolis. Lolis has been Acting Director of Information Services since the Common Council created the new department. Lolis was born in White Plains and has lived here for most of his life. He has worked for the City of White Plains since 1988 in various capacities and has had a series of promotions during his career. He became Information Technology Manager in 1997, managing the Division of Management Information Systems when it was under the direction of the Finance Commissioner. The creation of the new Department of Information Services was an important step in recognizing the significance of this function in the City's organizational structure. Lolis' many contributions to the City have included his involvement in the structuring and lay out of the network and fiber optic system. This system has placed the City, the Library, Public Safety and the Board of Education on the leading edge for its video, traffic and data communications systems. He has implemented the hardware and software systems used in various departments, provided staff with training, and established standards and security. He got the City through Y2K without a glitch. He was a key player in the development of the Information Technology Master Plan. |
