COUNTY CLERK TO REACH OUT TO PISTOL LICENSE HOLDERS

Spano Will Branch Out with Trigger Locks and Certification Forms Throughout County

County Clerk Leonard N. Spano today announced an agenda to mobilize his office in an effort to assist Westchester's pistol license holders become more responsible handgun owners, Specifically, over the course of next week, his staff will travel extensively throughout the county and set up satellite offices at various sites to hand out free trigger locks and to make available handgun certification applications.

At the end of 1999, Spano made public that his office would purchase handgun safety devices to give out freely to valid permit holders. Likewise, the County Clerk has been reminding all licensees of their obligation to certify their existing permits with his office before the April 1, 2000 deadline.

"Now that the trigger locks are available and simultaneously the deadline is fast approaching, We intend to make it easier for handgun owners to access my resources by reaching out to them" said Spano. "All they have to do is show up with a valid license or submit the application for certification, aid they will receive a trigger lock."

Spano emphasized that once a licensee submits an application form, even when they have not yet received a new license card, they have complied with the law and are eligible for a lock
