Film Reviews by Adele Green

Eye of the Beholder When a movie starts with a gigantica gun pointing out at your face, you know you're in for it. Ashley Judd is a real looker who just happens to kill men with knives, guns, anything that's handy -and sometimes she's dressed only her underwear. This is a smart cookie. She knows how to hold our attention. She's also gonna kill ya'. So of course, when our hero Ewan McGregor spies her while doing undercover work for British intelligence, he immediately falls in love with her. What makes this naked killer-girl so appealing is anyone's guess. If all this sounds a little far-fetched, it is - but it's done with lots of style and film-making technique and believe it or not, it does keep your interest. It was only when the movie ended that I wondered "what in the world was that." And so if you are just hankering to see a murder mystery and you've already seen "The Talented Mr. Ripley", I guess you can try this one.

My Dog Skip is a story about a boy and his dog but it's much, much more. Frankie Muniz stars as the kid. He's not movie-star beautiful, or movie-star polished — just very real. He's appearing now on the hot new T.V. show Matthew in the Middle and as you'll see in My Dog Skip there's something about him that's so right-on real. Kevin Bacon plays his father and you should know that a guideline for me is - "see any movie with Kevin Bacon." This guy seems too have a knack for picking material that's worthwhile - for him as an actor and then for us as the audience. Whether he makes the part, or the part makes him, there is always an air of dignity about his work that moves me. O.k., o.k. - this is, after all, a story about a boy and his dog — and yes, you will cry at this movie - especially if you ever had a dog, or were ever young. But, Frankie Muniz and Kevin Bacon are in a class by themselves. And a joy to see together.
